Physical Therapy Treatment

Steve will provide you with direction and hands-on therapy to ensure you are safely progressing your rehabilitation following joint replacements, fractures, strokes, spinal injuries, balance and vestibular disorders. Frequently, people feel afraid to move after an injury and are unsure as to what they are permitted to do without causing further harm. Steve wants to ensure that you fully understand the nature of your condition or injury and how you can best recover. Depending on your needs, you may be shown how to learn to walk with crutches, a walker or climb stairs safely, or transfer from a wheelchair to a bed.

Balance/Vestibular Disorders

Falls risk assessment and balance training are frequently needed and can be conducted in your home. Treatment for some vestibular disorders can be addressed under supervision and you will be taught techniques that you can perform independently to assist your recovery.

Strengthening Exercises

You can expect to be challenged when doing strengthening exercises. Of course, the intensity at the beginning of any program will be adjusted to accommodate your current condition.

Falls risk assessment and balance training are frequently needed and can be conducted in your home.

Rehabilitation at Home

Safety is a key aspect of rehabilitating at home. Simple changes to your home may be recommended. Referral to an occupational therapist might also be appropriate to assess the need for medical equipment or mobility/safety aids.

About Us Steven Kroeger

Steve began his physiotherapy career working in Vancouver hospitals for the first eight years gaining a wide variety of assessment and treatment skills for spinal and head injuries, strokes, orthopedic surgeries, acute orthopedic injuries, and respiratory conditions. As a member of an integrated health care team on the Acute Spinal Cord Injury Unit for six years he was also privileged to mentor physiotherapy students. Throughout his career he has pursued continuing education that leads to the application of evidence based therapies. He graduated in physical therapy from UBC and also holds a bachelors degree in zoology and a masters in human nutrition. For over a decade while attending university, he also worked with a diabetic research team at Childrens’ Hospital headed by the late Dr. John Tze.

He supervised a large multifaceted work conditioning program for three years before embarking on his current private practice in home-based services. Seeing his clients achieve their goals and maximizing independence within the home setting and their life’s ambitions brings him great satisfaction.

Steve believes that the success of any rehabilitation program begins with attention to a detailed and comprehensive assessment and by listening carefully to “the person in front of you.”

He spends his leisure time playing piano, engaged in sports, and in the company of his most amazing family and friends.
